Carmen Amelio, 84 passed away in Mendham, NJ on April 30 after a brave and courageous battle with cancer. Throughout, he maintained a positive outlook and loved having visits from his family and friends. Carmen was born in Morristown, NJ on December 2, 1931. His parents, Angelina and Guisippi Amelio were originally from Calabria, Italy. He was raised in Morristown, along with his 6 brothers and sisters.He attended Saint Margaret's School and Morristown High School. He worked as the Benefits Administrator for the Morris County Laborers Union, Local 711 and retired from there after more than 30 years. The most important thing in his life was his family and they were his greatest pride. He was always there to protect,care and provide for them. Carmen enriched his grandchildren's lives by always being present whenever they needed him. He attended their sporting events, birthday parties, school functions and enjoyed every minute of it. He loved them very much and they him. Carmen was always working on a home improvement project and also helped others with their homes. He enjoyed gardening, especially home grown tomatoes. He also loved walking his little dog Katie. Carmen is survived by his wife Helen of over 60 years and their four children, Teresa (husband, Lewis), Lori, Carmen Jr (wife, Susan) and Steven. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Andrew, Alexandra and Daniel Agis and Nicole Amelio, all living in Morristown. Grace Tovani and Anthony Amelio are his two surviving siblings. He has touched our lives in countless ways. He taught us how to live with dignity and respect and we are forever grateful for having him in our lives. Family and friends are welcome to gather on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 4-8pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A Funeral Service for Carmen will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00am at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
