Obituary of Edward P. Hughes, Jr.

Edward P. Hughes, Jr., 68, passed away on January 18, 2017. He was born in Englewood, NJ, and lived in Convent Station for more than 30 years. Edward graduated from St. Cecilia Elementary School, Englewood, NJ, and Xavier Military Academy, NY. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Boston College and a Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration from Cornell University. He worked in Hospital Administration at Overlook Hospital, Summit, and Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, NY, and held various positions in NJ Blue Cross/Blue Shield. He was an avid sailor, enthusiastic tennis player and Civil War history buff. A life-long fan of sports, he was extremely active with the Morristown Little League where both his sons were members. Edward is survived by his sons, William Hughes and Christopher Hughes, his sisters, Elizabeth Nyberg, and her husband, Robert, and Kathleen Hughes Doucette as well as nephews, Robert Nyberg, Richard Nyberg and James Nyberg. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Victoria Morris Hughes, in 2014. Family and friends are welcome to gather on Friday, January 20, 2017, from 4-7 pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main St., Madison, NJ 07940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 10:00 am at St. Thomas More, Morristown, NJ 07960. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery, Montclair, NJ 07042. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edward’s memory to the Alzheimer’s foundation (alz.org) and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (themmrf.org).
