Obituary of Colonel Jay R. Reuben, ESQ.

Please share a memory of Colonel Jay to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

~~Colonel Jay Robert Reuben Esq., 88, of Convent Station, passed away on October 9, 2017 at Morristown Medical Center.

Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Jay was the proud son of Nathan A. Reuben & Helen Ostrow Reuben (both deceased), and resided in Morristown area for over 50 years. A graduate of Weequahic High School, he earned a B.A. from NYU, and a JD from Columbia University, both funded by racing stock cars, unbeknownst to his parents.

Jay retired as a Colonel & JAG for the State of NJ, with numerous awards & commendations, after proudly serving 35 years in the US Army & NJ National Guard.  While in the military, Jay founded a private practice in criminal defense law, eventually leaving to join AT&T, from which he retired after 25 years, as a Senior Tax Attorney. Jay selflessly volunteered and served on the board of trustees for multiple organizations, including Fosterfields and the Lake Drive Foundation, which he helped found, with his late wife, Gail.

Jay's family includes his beloved wife, Gail Dunlap Reuben (deceased), his devoted children, Jeremy Kenneth & Hilary E. Phillips, her husband, Thomas E. Phillips III, and his cherished grandchildren, Thomas E. IV & Charlotte Willow Phillips.  His extended family includes his dear sister, Charlotte Karp, brother-in-law, Berni Karp (both deceased), and their children: Jonathan D. & Gregory D. Karp.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Sunday, October 15, 2017 from 3-6pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A Funeral Service for Jay will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 11:00am at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery, Montclair.
