Obituary of Gloria B. Sharen

Gloria Demers Sharen, 95, of Madison passed away on February 18, 2018 at the Chatham Hills Care Center.

Born and raised in Troy, NY, with her siblings; Jack, Chet, Kay, Bob, Bill, Joan, Jim and Rollin, she graduated from Troy High School in 1940.

Gloria resided in Madison for more than 70 years. Gloria worked for the Madison Police Department as a Police Matron and as the Central Avenue School Crossing Guard for over 40 years.

Gloria, her daughter, Judy, and her granddaughters, Leigh and Kate, were three generations of dancers at the Myra Witt Dance Studio.

Gloria is survived by her devoted children, Robert Sharen, Jr., and Judith Serbinski and her husband, Andrew. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Katie Fortugno and her husband, Dominic, and Leigh Marino; and her adored greatgrandchildren, Mia Gowran and Lira Parent. Gloria is predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Sharen, her long-time companion, Hank Dobrowski, and her parents, John and Mary Demers.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 1pm to 3pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main St. Madison. Interment will be private.

Gloria wanted to say a special good bye to “her boys” at the Madison Police Department. She also wanted to say a special “Thank You” to the Cecala family, Han family and Linda Prescott. She will be missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in memory of Gloria may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
