Jane L. Kilmartin, 86, formerly of Morristown, more recently of Morris Plains, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on June 21, 2016. Born on January 17, 1930 in Madison, Jane was raised on a dairy farm in Florham Park. She later lived in Mendham; before settling and raising her family in Morristown; and then finally retiring and residing with her daughter in Morris Plains. Jane was married to her loving husband, Charles W. Kilmartin, in 1951. Together with Charles, Jane ran the iconic “Mister Softee” ice cream business, and was affectionately referred to as “Mrs. Softee.” Because of her devotion to and love of children, Jane also owned and operated a child daycare center in Morristown for over 30 years. It was here that Jane loved and nurtured so many children. Charles and Jane went on to raise their own family of three children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. In her free time, Jane enjoyed cooking, gardening and nature, music, and the beach, and was very proud of her Irish heritage. Jane is survived by her devoted children, Karen Molinaro, of Chandler, AZ, Kevin Kilmartin, and his wife, Jill, of West Chester, PA, and Kathy Cannavina, and her husband, Tony, of Morris Plains, NJ. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, David Molinaro, Kristin Grimm, Catherine Kilmartin, Rebecca Kilmartin, Brian Cannavina, Megan Cannavina, Kevin Cannavina, and Carly Cannavina; as well as her adored great-grandchild, Carter Grimm; and her faithful canine companion, Nicky. Jane was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles, in 1993; and her dear brother, Robert Lewis, and her sister and best friend, Marion Weagley. Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 3-5 & 7-9pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A Funeral Mass for Jane will be held on Friday June 24, 2016 at 10:00am at St. Virgil’s Church, 250 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
