Joseph George “Big Joe” Schodowski, 57, of Bayonne, NJ, passed away on August 17, 2020 at St. Clare’s Dover Hospital. Born in Newark, Joseph lived in Bayonne for the past 20 years. He graduated from Bloomfield Technical High School in 1980 and went on to become a Union Carpenter with Local 253 in Edison, NJ for 39 years. Joseph enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends. He will be deeply missed. Joseph is survived by his cherished sons, Joseph Schodowski and Anthony Chieffo, adoring grandson, Joseph Schodowski, and devoted brothers and sisters, Carole Terantino, Thomas Schodowski and his wife, Victoria, Susan Bava and her husband, Robert, Raymond Schodowski and Patrick Schodowski and his wife, Deborah. Joseph is also survived by his caring nieces and nephews, Tina Bautz, Stacy Caracciolo, Jessica Coe, Joseph Schodowski, Thomas Schodowski, Elizabeth Schodowski, Dennis Hurle, Jr., Brittany Hurle, Lindsay Schodowski and Ryan Schodowski, and beloved great nieces and nephews, Charles Bautz, Nicholas Bautz, Alix Caracciolo, Jaime Caracciolo, Kendan Hornberger, Lucas Coe, Marcus Coe and Elias Coe. Joseph is predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Mildred Schodowski, sister, Margaret Hurle, and nephew, Ralph Hornberger. Family and friends are welcome to gather following CDC guidelines on Sunday, August 30, 2020 from 2-5 pm (eulogies and words of remembrance will begin at 4 pm) at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Those who wish to attend the Memorial Gathering are asked to wear masks and remain a social distance of 6 feet. To ensure that all who wish to pay their respects can do so, we politely ask you keep your visit brief to allow others to pay their respects as well. The family understands that many are still uncomfortable to attend public gatherings and will be unable to attend the visitation. We ask that you keep Joseph and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
