Ann Francis O’Hanlon (née Sheridan) of Madison, N.J. entered into eternal rest peacefully on January 16, 2021 at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, NJ. Born in Newark and raised in Irvington and then on to Madison for most of her life. Ann was the daughter of the late Francis [Frank] and Ann CremenSheridan. Ann’s dad was with the Newark Evening News and had a love for newspapers that he shared with his daughter. Ann graduated from Bayley Ellard High School in Madison and graduated from Mt. Aloysius Junior College in Cresson, Pa. and Mount Saint Agnes in Baltimore (now Loyola University) with a bachelor’s degree. After teaching in the Baltimore school system for several years,she moved to New York and joined The Bank of New York. She quickly rose through the ranks of the Bank in the personnel department, ultimately rising to Vice President. Ann was known to have hired a good part of the Bank and was instrumental in helping the Bank develop what was then a new product - mutual funds. Ann was also a volunteer at Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home in Manhattan. Ann met and married James O’Hanlon of the Bronx in 1976, and she and Jim shared many happy years at their home in Stuyvesant Town and at their summer home in Manasquan, NJ until Jim’s untimely passing in 1991. After Jim’s death and her retirement from The Bank of New York, Ann returned to Morris County where she lived for several years in Morris Township before moving back to Madison. She devoted herself to her family and her dear friends throughout her life and was always an active member of St. Vincent Martyr in Madison. Ann was a substitute teacher at St. Vincent Martyr Elementary School in Madison and Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child in Summit, NJ. She loved when the children would call her “Mrs. O”. She continued to enjoy theatre, both on Broadway, the Paper Mill Playhouse, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Ann also loved to travel in Europe, especially Paris, and to visit historic homes, especially in the Baltimore area and the South. Ann was an active member of the Thursday Morning Club in Madison for many years. Ann is the proud stepmother of James O'Hanlon, Thom O'Hanlon, Terence Law and Patricia O'Hanlon McDevitt and grandmother of Ian, Shaun, Erin and James O'Hanlon. She is also survived by her cousins Linda Weaver (Kevin) and Charles Andrews (Noreen), her caregiver Nancy Andrews, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews on both the Sheridan and Cremen sides of the family.
