Obituary of Robert H. McTague, III

~~Robert Hugh McTague III (Rob) passed away Thursday morning at home in Madison, NJ, surrounded by his family, after an extended illness.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sylvia Merrill Skaggs McTague, daughters Emma and Tara McTague, sister Mary Carte, niece Christina Carte, and parents Robert and Doris McTague.

Robert was reared in Tallahassee, Florida, where he graduated from Godby High School in 1986. He graduated from Loyola of New Orleans in 1990.  In 1992 he started his graduate career at Drew University, earning his Ph.D. there in 1999.  By then, Madison became his home and in 1995 he married Sylvia, started a family and pursued his teaching career.  He taught History and English at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Pope John XXIII High School, and most recently at Elite Preparatory Academy.

He and his family are members of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chatham.  Rob was active in the community, coaching softball for his daughters’ teams and tutoring high school students in Morris and Essex counties.

The family will receive guests on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street in Madison.  A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Church, 85 Washington Avenue in Chatham, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in memory of Robert may be made to a Trust formed for the education of his two daughters, c/o Sylvia McTague, 15 Rosemont Avenue, Madison, NJ 07940.
