Obituary of Jane Ann Lang

Please share a memory of Jane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jane Lang passed away at home surrounded by her family on December 4, 2024. She was 81 years old.

Jane was a native of Boston, Massachusetts and a graduate of Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA. Jane came to New Jersey in 1965 to receive her first Seeing Eye dog and she met her future husband Pete while attending the school.

Jane lived in New Jersey for most of her life, first in Morristown and then in Morris Plains, where she raised a family and enjoyed being active in the community.

Jane was a seven-time graduate of The Seeing Eye in Morristown, NJ and was an advocate for the independence her Seeing Eye dog partnerships provided her.

Jane enjoyed music, sports and various adventures. A devoted New York Yankees fan, she was honored at the organization’s HOPE (Helping Others Persevere and Excel) week in 2010.

Jane was predeceased by her parents, her twin sister and her first six guide dogs – Sandy, Fifi, Willy, Matthew, Laramie and Clipper.

She will be missed and thought of often by her husband of 59 years Pete, her daughter Sharon, her son Dan and his wife Lori, her son Bill and his wife Lori,  her granddaughter Miranda and her seventh guide dog Gabby.

Jane saw with her heart. Her intuitive way of knowing how others were feeling and her profound compassion for both people and animals made her the wonderful person that will be remembered by everyone who met her.

A celebration of Jane’s life will be held for family and friends on Saturday March 22nd from 1:00 until 4:00 at the Morris Plains VFW, 45 Tabor Road, Morris Plains. A memorial meeting will be held on April 5th at 2:00 at the Chatham-Summit Quaker Meeting, 158 Southern Blvd, Chatham Township.

Donations in Jane’s memory can be made to The Seeing Eye, Inc. (www.seeingeye.org) and Perkins School for the Blind (www.perkins.org).

Arrangements were under the care of Dangler Funeral Home, Morris Plains.
