Obituary of Barbara A. Weir

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Barbara Weir (1942 – 2025)

Barbara Weir of Chatham passed away peacefully on March 3 after complications from a series of recent illnesses.  A self-proclaimed ‘Jersey Girl,’ Barbara’s first job was to keep a protective eye over her younger brother Allan through challenging childhood years for them both.  Barbara had a long and successful career with United Airlines, working for over three decades in Chicago, where she received a Distinguished Service Award and special recognition for organizing staff and volunteers after the September 11th attacks.

A consummate traveler, Barbara’s professional endeavors and personal interests took her to all corners of the world.  After retiring from United, Barbara returned to the state she loved so much.  Not content to slow down in retirement, she continued working at two of her favorite retailers, joined a bowling league, and volunteered at the Market Street Mission of Morristown for over a decade.  She also continued to travel with friends whenever possible.

Barbara leaves behind a cousin, Barbara Jones of Kearny; niece Gretchen Weir of Eugene, Oregon; nephew Stuart Weir, his wife Sharon and their children Elliot and Margaret, all of Portland, Oregon; and countless long-time friends in New Jersey and beyond.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 4:00-6:00pm, with a Memorial Service/Words of Remembrance at 5:00pm, at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home Madison, NJ. Interment of Ashes will take place on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Arlington Cemetery, Kearny, NJ.
