You will be missed, Uncle Desi! I was so young when we visited you in Oregon and went to see Mount St. Helens. I remember checking out the lava exhibit and seeing all the leafless trees damaged by the lava.I only kind of remember from all the picture Grandpa took. I haven’t been out west besides Oregon, so whenever I do, I always tell people I’ve been to ORE-GON to visit my Uncle Desi—yep, that’s how they explained the pronunciation! Though we weren’t super close, I know you were deeply loved, especially from hearing it from your brother, my grandfather, Jim. You will always be in our hearts.

We will miss you Uncle Desi! I'll never forget visiting you out west and sleeping in that cool little bunker in the guest room you had. Taking us to the cabin at the private cove. It was so awesome to see my first REAL CAVE. I also got to tell everyone through life that I actually stayed where Keiko the whale from the movie Free Willy was from. I think I actually still have my little Keiko the whale necklace somewhere. Mount St Helens and Mt Hood were both amazing memories as well. When moving to Madison and getting to know the town.. everyone knew who you were when the name McGuirk was mentioned every time. You definitely left a mark in lives that you touched. We never got to build the relationship I knew we would have if I was still living in town but we will have our opportunity to cross paths again. Will miss you Uncle Desi! With love, Little Jimmy

My sympathy to Desi's family and friends. Desi was a good friend of my brother Keith, so he was often at our home growing up. When I was in college, I directed Desi in a couple of CYO plays at St. Vincent's. I remember his wonderful sense of humor. I am so glad that I got to have coffee with him and catch up when I returned for my high school reunion seven years ago. May he rest in peace.
