Obituary of Desmond J. McGuirk
Desmond Joseph McGuirk, 72, of Madison, New Jersey, passed away on March 26, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Desmond was born on April 20, 1952, in Dublin, Ireland, to James and Margaret McGuirk. In his early years, he immigrated with his family to Toronto, Canada, and later to Madison, New Jersey, where he attended Madison High School and County College of Morris. In the early 1980s, he moved out west, eventually settling in Portland, Oregon, where he built a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication.
Known for his kindness, quick wit, and humor, Desmond dedicated his life to his family and his career as a stone mason. He had an artistic flair for working with his hands and found joy in the arts, music, and the many dogs he fostered through the years. His craftsmanship and creativity left a lasting mark on both his work and the lives he touched.
Desmond was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Gwynevere. He is survived by his brothers, Anthony and James McGuirk; his sister, Carol, and her husband, John Allocca; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Narong Tibarn; Nongluk and Bruce Turnbull; Anthony and Stephanie Allocca; Sean and Yana Allocca; Daniel and Nicole Allocca; Jimmy and Vallorie Tibarn; Kenny and Melina Tibarn; Stephanie Turnbull and Brandon Gambino. Desmond will also be deeply missed by Gianni, Eliana, Kayleigh, Siena, Adriana, Giovanni, and many extended family members and friends. His cherished dog, Belle, will miss him dearly and remain in the loving care of his sister, Carol, until they meet again.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Desmond's healthcare team—the doctors, nurses, and caregivers—who provided compassionate care and support throughout the past years. Your dedication and kindness brought comfort to Desmond and his family during challenging times, and your efforts will always be remembered with deep appreciation.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ.
