Obituary of Robert Victor Jacobus

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Victor Jacobus, a man whose strength, kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. Bob passed away at Morristown Medical Center on March 26, 2025.

Bob was born on June 7, 1947, in Irvington, New Jersey to Victor and Alice (Schlegel) Jacobus. He graduated from Irvington High School in 1965. Bob proudly served as a weapons mechanic with the Air Force during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for meritorious service with the 366th Munitions Maintenance Squadron.

After the war, Bob graduated from Kean College. Bob was one of the handiest guys you could ever meet so it was only fitting that he became an industrial arts teacher (auto mechanics, drafting, and wood shop). He taught at several high schools throughout his tenure including Whippany Park, Dunellen, Morristown, and Roxbury where he developed many treasured friendships.  Bob retired in 2009 after over 35 years of service.

Bob raised his children in Morris Township and moved to West Milford in 2001. He loved the outdoors and never missed a chance to take out the boat, go camping, or bicycling. An avid motorcyclist, Bob enjoyed meeting up with “the guys” for breakfast and taking long road trips. He dutifully attended the Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally in Washington, D.C. for Memorial Day Weekend to honor the fallen and missing every year that he could.

Active in his community, Bob often helped with building sets for local theater performances. He also used his woodworking skills to make furniture for family.  Bob enjoyed entertaining, especially if it included firing up "his" grill and serving his famous ice cream sundaes. He always enjoyed taking care of his property, trying to get a better and greener lawn each year. Bob loved NASCAR and was proud he (Black3) was in the number one spot of his sports pool last week. His greatest joy was watching his grandkids grow - he was their biggest sports fan and will be dearly missed on the sidelines of their games.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Lynn Scott, devoted children Erin Jacobus (Rob), Lauren Ardolino (Joe), Kristin Howell (Jimmy), Scott Jacobus (Amy) and cherished grandchildren Kayla Howell and Jacob Ardolino.  Also surviving are his sister Carol Knehr, niece Karyn Hadley (Brian), and grandniece Katelyn Hadley. Bob was looking forward to meeting his second grandson this summer and was so proud to know that the Jacobus name would carry on.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 3 at Dangler Funeral Home in Morris Plains, NJ from 3-6pm. Military Honors are scheduled for 5:30pm. Bob will be laid to rest privately at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or your favorite local animal shelter.
