Sincere condolences to Lisa, Laura, Nancy’s sister and extended family. I’m happy I got to meet many of you at the wake and hear your Nancy stories. We all have stories to tell about Nancy and they are all good. I was very impressed by Nancy’s show of artistic talent in her paintings; I never knew about this gift she developed in the last two decades. The scene with the canoes touched me deeply, as the boat support crossbars reminded me of crucifixes, a holy reference to Nancy’s faith that she lived so well. Perhaps it was subliminal, but I believe it was spiritual. Nancy lived her life always thinking of others. I worked with Nancy for many years in the Homeless Host ministry, mostly behind the scenes arranging sheets, occasionally visiting for mealtime with the families. These families spent weekends several times a year in St Vincent Martyr parish, housed in individual cubicles made to look as welcoming and homey as possible, thanks to Nancy’s touch. During our orientation to volunteering with the program, we were reminded how important it is to show respect and not to judge circumstances of others. Nancy often talked about her daughters and their musical talents, never boasting however. I asked how they got to be so good at playing instruments and she said, “This is how they came.” She did encourage their talents. A chance occurrence last summer led us to talk for a good half hour. She spoke about Lee Howard, her her dear recently deceased friend from Family Promise and also about her daughter Lisa’s recent health issues that were limiting her display of violin talent. Who knew that would be our last conversation? I was blessed to have known Nancy and so were her family and the families she so lovingly devoted herself too. May Nancy rest in peace in God’s presence and May God continue to bless Nancy’s family.

Rest in Peace Nancy. I volunteered with Nancy at St Vincent’s when Nancy organized the Homeless sleep nights. She was kind and caring to all who came to spend the night and eat a meal at St Vincent’s.

Fifty years ago, Nancy and I shared an office at Bell Labs, along with Tony Vizioli. This picture was taken the first year that we weren't allowed to bring real christmas trees into our office for the holidays. So, instead, we made our own Christmas tree out of the abundant printer paper that we accumulated. Nancy and I have been friends ever since. Since retirement, we have enjoyed many lunches together, often enjoying other activities like Mansion in May and Living Sculptures at Willowwood Arboretum. Every year, we had a special lunch to celebrate our September birthdays. She will be sorely missed. --Mary Ann Kokai
