Obituary of Lloyd A. Williams
With sadness, we announce that Lloyd Anderson Williams, 95, passed away peacefully on April 11 in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Lloyd was born on March 9, 1930 and lived most of his life in Morris Plains, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Regina (Jean) Williams.
Lloyd attended the Morristown School and Upsala College before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served in Korea during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he married Jean and enrolled in Rutgers University, graduating in 1958.
Over the years he worked as a systems analyst for various companies, including New Jersey Bell Telephone, Hess Oil, and Sweda Monroe Cash Register Company.
Throughout his life Lloyd displayed a dedication to community service. As a young man he was involved in the Morris County Jaycees, eventually serving as president. For many years, he served on the Morris Plains Planning Commission, the Morris Plains Board of Adjustment, and the Morris Plains Board of Education, ending his tenure there as president. In his later years he was active on the Morris Plains Shade Tree Commission and he volunteered at the Morris County Interfaith Food Pantry.
But nothing speaks more highly of his commitment to volunteerism and community service than his work at the Morris Plains Public Library, where he devoted his services for six decades in various roles, including treasurer and trustee. Recently, a tree was planted on the library grounds in honor of his contributions.
He loved taking the family for boat rides on Otsego Lake and was an expert at mixing cocktails for family and friends. At Christmas time, his offkey anchoring of the family rendition of 12 days of Christmas was a staple. He was a key part of the tight-knit Winding Way community over the 60+ years he lived there. His impactful participation in this truly idyllic neighborhood will be felt by generations to follow.
Lloyd is survived by six children: Mary (Gary Donahue). George (Larisa), Michael, Ann O’Heney (Tim), Thomas, and Beth Liou (Eric). He is also survived by ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Ave., Morris Plains on Tuesday, April 15, 4:30 – 7:30 PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. Virgil’s Catholic Church in Morris Plains at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the interfaith Food Pantry (www.mcifp.org).
