I have some great memories of Coach. I played for him at Dover HS from 1965-68. He came to Dover just in time from Morris Catholic and turned around the Dover basketball program overnight. A word I learned from Coach I still use today “stick-to-it-tive-ness”. My condolences to the Luciano family. Ron Shapiro

Sympathy to the family of Patrick Luciano. I know he was an icon of Madison. Sorry I just learned about his death. I met Mr. Luciano about four years ago while taking a long walk with my husband on the streets of Madison. Pat was in front of his house and I quickly knew that his would be a long conversation because we were both outgoing and happy to be outside in the sunshine and fresh air. I told Patrick I was in the Madison Historical Society, so I heard a little about his history. I enjoyed hearing his story. He told me he could have ended up in Paterson because his ancestor who arrived in New York said “I want to go to Paterson” and the person bringing him said, “You must mean Madison.” He told me about a hair salon that was upstairs from his shop on Main Street where I believe his wife practiced as a hairdresser. He loved his wife and his family, it was quite clear. I heard about his education and surmised that the school for Physical Education at Montclair State was once called Panzer. It seemed he loved his coaching jobs even more than playing the sports himself during his high school years. He showed me photos of the old days, all in a framed photo collage. I’m sorry I didn’t get to see Pat after this one chance occurrence. Maybe it’s a lesson to take time to listen to other’s stories. May Patrick Luciano rest in peace.

RIP Coach!. My heart is heavy with the news of Coach Luciano's passing. He shaped me into the person I am today. His dedication and belief in me meant the world. I talked with him a few weeks ago and I will always remember his last words to me. “I love you Benz - keep shooting!”
