Obituary of Chief (RET) Anthony J. Amelio

Please share a memory of Chief (RET) Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

RANDOLPH, NJ — Anthony J. Amelio, of Randolph, NJ, passed away on April 14th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

A devoted husband, father, and friend, Anthony lived a life marked by service, joy, and deep love for those around him. Anthony was born in Morristown on November 22, 1943, and spent his early years growing up in the community he would always hold close to his heart. Drafted during the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Germany, where his sense of duty and honor took root. In 1969, he began his lifelong career in law enforcement in Morris Township, ultimately serving as Chief of Police—a role he held with integrity and dedication until his retirement in 2002. In addition to Anthony's career as a Police Officer, he spent over 45 years working as a Tax Consultant for many clients.

Beyond the badge, Anthony was known for his warmth, humor, and generous spirit. He found happiness in simple pleasures—boating, crabbing, and preparing elaborate Christmas Eve feasts that became treasured family traditions. His desserts, always made with love, brought smiles to every gathering. One of his greatest joys was sharing the magic of Disney World with his family, where he embraced the wonder and joy with childlike enthusiasm.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 54 years, Cathleen (Cathy Earle) Amelio, and their children Stacy, Brian, and Lindsay, who will forever cherish the love, laughter, and memories he gave them.

Anthony’s life was one of devotion—to his country, his community, and most of all, his family. He will be remembered with deep affection and missed beyond measure.

Visitation will be held on April 21st from 5 PM to 8 PM at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Ave., Morris Plains. (*A steady flow throughout the Funeral Home will allow all guests time to share their Condolences.)
