Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Helen Pearl Gentile, 88, of Mine Hill, NJ passed away on April 14, 2025.

Born in Easton, PA, Helen resided in Bayonne before moving to Mine Hill 30 years ago.

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many, Helen will be remembered for the warmth and joy she gave to those around her. Her ability to break into spontaneous song and dance, her love of walking, and her love for her family were what made Helen who she was. One who never gave up and always pushed herself to do more, even as her energy was waning, was one of her most enduring traits.

Helen was a teacher’s aide and later employed at Canfield Avenue School in Mine Hill and loved interacting with all the students. Helen was a member of the Mine Hill Township Women’s Auxiliary. She also volunteered at St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover.

Throughout her life, Helen loved to learn new things. She went to beauty school and won contests for her hairdressing. She sewed and was one of the best cooks. Helen could take what looked like sad leftovers and make a gourmet meal. Helen took ballroom dance lessons and won trophies. Later in life she took computer classes. Always eager to make new friends and acquaintances, she loved to talk to and be surrounded by people. At 88, she was still communicating with family and friends on her smart phone.

Helen is survived by her loving husband, Alfredo Gentile; and her devoted children, Chris Wollny (Wendy Wollny) and Melissa Savidge (Dave Savidge). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Kristen Wollny, Lauren Wollny, Jessica Wollny, Christopher Wollny, Jr., Andrew Savidge, and Bryn Savidge; as well as her great-children, Jameson Hero, and Tristan Hero.

Helen’s grandchildren and great- grandchildren have been among the many community members who have enjoyed the playground in the Mine Hill Fireman’s field.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Mine Hill Fire Department’s efforts to build a new playground with this link: Playground Fundraiser — Mine Hill Fire Department.

Family and friends will gather graveside for a committal at 11:00am on Monday April 21st at Evergreen Cemetery in Morristown, NJ.
