Obituary of Allene Mae Rush
Allene Mae (Marsh) Rush passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17th at the age of 99. She spent the last eight years with her family in Morristown, New Jersey and at Sunrise of Randolph. She was born on April 2, 1926, in Northampton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late LeRoy Cyrus Marsh and Bertha Mae (Biechy) Marsh.
Allene was a graduate of Easton High School, Class of 1944, and furthered her education at Bethlehem Business College in Bethlehem, PA. She enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a bookkeeper for Continental Motors in Easton, PA, where she dedicated many years before retiring in 1987.
Beyond her professional life, Allene was deeply involved in her community and cherished her many friendships. Her commitment to service shone brightly through her active participation in several fraternal organizations. Allene held the esteemed title of Past Worthy Matron of William Parsons Chapter No. 185, Order of the Eastern Star, and was also a member of the Dorothy Lim Memorial Court #110, Order of the Amaranth.
Allene had a passion for music, playing clarinet, bass clarinet, and tenor saxophone. In her younger years, she played as a member of Earl Held’s All Girl Band in Easton, PA. She played in the Mark Hillburn Dance Band and Ray Paul’s Dance Band, where she performed for many years, bringing joy to countless audiences in the Easton area.
Allene also had a love of traveling and visited many countries throughout the years including Egypt, Japan, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand.She was a lifelong and devoted supporter of Easton High School sports and never missed the Thanksgiving Day games against Phillipsburg. She was also an avid Penn State football fan and enjoyed watching games every week with family and friends.
She was married to Robert Baxter Rush, who preceded her in death in July of 1983. Together, they raised two loving sons, Robert Barry Rush and Wayne Carlton Rush. Allene was a cherished mother-in-law to Shirley Rush and Olinda Rush. She also leaves behind granddaughters Lauren Shohen (Andrew Shohen) and Erin Doucette (Craig Doucette) and great-grandchildren Benjamin, Robert, and Josephine.
In later years, Allene found companionship with Sanford “Sandy” Miller, who sadly passed away in September of 2017. Allene and Sandy enjoyed square dancing, cruising, and traveling in their campers including many trips to national parks and Alaska. They made their winter home in Felda, FL and their summer home in Upper Black Eddy, PA.
Allene’s warm spirit, dedication to her community, and love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown at 57 East Park Place at 3:00 pm on Thursday, April 24th.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Music Fund at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown, in honor of Allene’s lifelong appreciation for music.
