Obituary of John F. Shivas
John (Jack) F. Shivas, 80, passed away peacefully with his family at his side. He was born in Morristown, NJ, and has resided in Morris Plains for the past 65 years.
Jack graduated from Morristown High School in 1962 and from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Banking. He worked as a Banker for Morris Savings Bank and First Fidelity for 38 years until his retirement in 1998. He then worked for the Morris County Office of Temporary Services until he retired in 2011,
An active member of his community, he was involved in the Morris Plains Rotary Club as past President, the Morris Plains Recreation Commission, the Morris Plains Planning Board and the Morris Plains Little League as well as a member of the Morris County Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
Jack enjoyed bowling and playing golf. He organized yearly golf trips to Ocean City, MD with his family and friends. He could be seen cheering on his grandchildren at their various sporting events, being their #1 fan.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Anne D. Shivas, and his loving children, Bridget and her husband, Brian McGotty, Morris Plains, NJ., Carey and her husband, Peter Cervona, Mine Hill, NJ, Edward Shivas and his wife, Melissa, Succasunna, NJ, and Jack Shivas and his wife Sarah, Succasunna, NJ, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Katherine and Lindsay McGotty, Ellyn and Dean Cervona, Riley, Patrick and Shawn Shivas, and Rory and Finley Shivas. He is also survived by his siblings, George Shivas and his wife, Francine, Andover, NJ, Robert Shivas and his wife, Sandra, Illion, NY, Donald Shivas and his wife, Francine, Rockaway, NJ, Eileen Claffey and her husband, John, Morris Plains, NJ, Ann Paquette and her husband, Ronald, Virginia, Mary Lou Orr, Morris Plains, NJ, Bruce Shivas and his wife, Jane, Morristown, NJ, Elizabeth Kristen and her husband, Robert, Hazelton, PA, Kathleen Effner and her husband, Thomas, Morris Plains, NJ.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 4-7pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Ave., Morris Plains, NJ. (*A steady flow throughout the Funeral Home will allow all guests time to share their condolences.*) A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 10am at St. Virgil’s Church, 250 Speedwell Ave., Morris Plains, NJ. Interment will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, Morristown, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations may be made to the Morris Minute Men (www. morrisminutemen.org) in Jack’s memory.
