Roger Lewis Morgan (92), a lifelong resident of Morris Plains, NJ, passed away surrounded by family on July 21, 2025. He was the son of Warren K. Morgan, Sr. and Gladys Pettit Morgan. Born in Morristown, NJ on November 4, 1932, Roger grew up in Morris Plains, NJ and graduated from Morristown High School in 1950. He graduated from Drake Business School.

Roger served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany, he served in the Military Police and was promoted to Corporal. He received the Good Conduct and the National Defense Service medals. On October 22, 1955, he married the love of his life, Joan Elizabeth Byram. Though they met at church youth group, he often told how Joan had sent him a birthday card and he was so impressed that he asked her out to the movies.

Roger worked for American Home Products, becoming Assistant to the Treasurer by the end of his 35 year career. He began his career at the “Coffee Plant” on Hanover Avenue in Morris Plains but was soon transferred to NYC, commuting by train each day. Following retirement, Roger began a second career as a mail courier that lasted almost 15 years at Provident Bank (formerly First Morris Bank).

He worked hard without complaint to support his family in their many endeavors and always provided sound advice when asked. He rarely spoke a bad word about anyone or anything and was known as a kind and gentle man who had a quiet sense of humor.

Roger was the longest active member of the Presbyterian Church of Morris Plains. This past Memorial Day he was honored to represent the church, riding in the Grand Marshall’s carriage in the Morris Plains Memorial Day Parade to celebrate the church’s 150th anniversary. Roger always said he was “hatched, matched and would be dispatched” from the church.

Roger and Joan were members of the Ironia Reelers and Hanover Squares for many years, square dancing every Friday night and travelling around the country giving exhibition dances. They travelled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe on Tauck bus tours and with the church travel group. They also spent many summers on LBI with family.
