Obituary of Kevin E. Whitehorne

Please share a memory of Kevin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kevin E. Whitehorne, 72, of Summit, NJ, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025. Born on July 22, 1953, in New York City to Eugene and Evelyn Whitehorne, Kevin grew up in Scotch Plains, NJ, graduating from Scotch Plains–Fanwood High School in 1971. He then earned his degree from Villanova University in 1975, which sparked a lifelong love of Villanova Wildcats basketball.

In addition to the Wildcats, Kevin was a massive fan of the New York Giants and the New York Yankees. That same passion carried into his career, as he spent his entire professional life with Philip Morris, working in New York and later Richmond, Virginia. It was also there that he met his wife, Tricia, beginning a loving marriage that lasted 40 years until her passing in 2020.

After retiring in 2005, Kevin enjoyed spending time with family and golfing. He also served on the board of the Hanover Country Club and as president of the Kiwanis Club of Ashland, VA.

Kevin was preceded in death by his wife, Tricia, and his parents. He will be missed by his daughter, Samantha; his son, Chris, and daughter-in-law, Jessica; and his grandkids, Charlie and Cal, who affectionately called him “Chiefy.” He also leaves behind his five sisters—Darcy (Bob) Mingoia, Dawn (Barry) Van Doren, Colleen (Joe) Brescia, Michele (Paul) Rawson, and Jackie (Doug) Madsen—along with many nieces and nephews.

Kevin most recently lived at Sunrise of Summit, where the caring staff made him feel at home, and his family is truly thankful for their kindness.

A celebration of Kevin's life will take place Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 12 p.m. at the Grain & Cane in Berkeley Heights, NJ.

Donations may be made in Kevin's name to Hilarity for Charity, a nonprofit dedicated to brain health research, Alzheimer’s risk reduction, and caregiver support: https://wearehfc.org.
