Obituary of David Ian MacArthur

David Ian MacArthur, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and talented artist, passed away on August 17, 2025, in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. He was born on November 15, 1930, in Newark, New Jersey, to David Nesbitt MacArthur and Ann MacArthur of Scotland.

David served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was stationed aboard the USS Moale, a destroyer that saw action during the Korean War.

Following his military service, David pursued a successful career as an art director at Prudential in Newark, New Jersey. His creative talents extended beyond the corporate world—he was also a gifted artist and cartoonist whose work reflected both imagination and humor.

David was a member of the VFW, The Art Director's Club of New Jersey, and The Tin Can Sailors.

David shared fifty cherished years of marriage with his beloved wife, Margo Lynne MacArthur of Wethersfield, Connecticut. Together they built a loving family that brought him joy.

He is remembered by his daughter Lauren Wintermute of Morristown, New Jersey and her spouse Koa Skomp; his son Daniel Nesbitt MacArthur of Clemmons, North Carolina; his granddaughter Lily Wintermute; and his step-grandson Aiden Skomp.

David enjoyed hunting, fishing, jazz music, drawing, and spending time with his wife, Margo most of all.

David’s life was marked by his warmth, kindness and humor, as well as his interest in all things US Navy. May his memory bring a smile to all who knew him."

A graveside service with military funeral honors will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11am at the Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Sparta, NJ.
