Obituary of Lois A. Fisher

Lois A. Fisher, 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Pompton Plains on September 23, 2025. She was born in Middletown, NY, and lived in Chatham, NJ, for 35 years prior to moving to Cedar Crest Senior Living, Pompton Plains, NJ, 12 years ago.

Lois graduated from Cooperstown Central School in 1949. She earned both a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1953 and a Master’s in Social Work Degree in 1958 from Syracuse University.

Lois loved learning and her educational accomplishments included a Certificate in Child and Adolescent Psychology from the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis in 1963, a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1984, and a law degree, JD, from New York University in 1997. Over the course of her life, Lois worked as an educator, social worker, and attorney until her retirement in 2002.

Lois is survived by her sons, David Fisher of Healdsburg, CA, and Daniel Fisher and his wife, Joan, of New York City, and by her grandsons, Max Fisher of Sugarland, TX, and Sam Fisher of New York City. She is also survived by her nieces, Jamie Belilah, Portsmouth, NH, Jill Belilah, Kittery, ME, and Janne Belilah Forester, York, ME.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Fisher in 2008, her daughter-in-law, Sadie Barr, in 2024, her brother, Ronald Apman, of Cooperstown, NY, in 2013, her sister, Gail Apman Belilah, in 2021, and her brother-in-law, Karl Belilah in 2024, of Eliot, ME.

A graveside service will be held for Lois on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 1 pm at Hanover Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family believes that Lois would suggest a donation to the American Civil Liberties Union (www.aclu.org.).
