Obituary of Deborah A. McLoughlin

Please share a memory of Deborah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Deborah Anne “Debbie” McLoughlin, 71, of Maplewood passed away suddenly at home on November 7, 2025.

Born in Montclair, Debbie resided in Succasunna before moving to Maplewood eight years ago.

Debbie graduated from Villa Walsh Academy in 1972 and earned a degree in Psychology from Seton Hall University in 1978.

She was also a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Maplewood.

Debbie is survived by her loving siblings, Eugene McLoughlin, and his wife, Lynne, of Maplewood, and Caryn Battaglia, of Ledgewood. She is also survived by her cherished nieces and nephews, Jessica McLoughlin-Clayton (Gregory), Ryan McLoughlin (Tiffany), Lauren McLoughlin (Peter), Danielle Ubhaus (Robert), Alexander McLoughlin, Erin Doyle (Mike), Caitlin Tanis (Steve), Stephen Doyle (Molly), Corey Battaglia (Liz), Vincent Battaglia (Noelani), and Cassie Battaglia; as well as her 16 adored great-nieces and nephews. Debbie was predeceased by her dear siblings, Robert McLoughlin and Lisa McLoughlin (both in 2016); and her brother-in-law, Tony Battaglia (2018).

Debbie loved music, especially “The Grateful Dead”, and was an avid concert-goer. She also loved reading and enjoyed spending time at the beach. But, it was Debbie’s close-knit family that held a special place in her heart – as she loved to attend all of her great-nieces’ and nephews’ school and extra-curricular activities. She was a friend to everyone she met and lived to rally in support of her beliefs.

“Fare Thee Well.”

Family and friends are welcome to gather for a visitation for Debbie on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 from 4-7pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison. A Memorial Mass for Debbie will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 10:30am a St. Joseph’s Church, 767 Prospect Street, Maplewood. Interment of Ashes will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in memory of Debbie may be made to: St. Jude Children's Reserch Hospital (www.stjude.org), or The Trevor Project (www.thetrevorproject.org).
