Obituary of Gregory B. Langford
Gregory "Greg" Langford, 71, of Dover, NJ passed away on November 17, 2025.
Born in Ithaca, NY, Greg resided in Eugene, Oregon before moving to Dover 19 years ago.
Greg graduated from Shaker Heights High School in Shaker Heights, OH in 1972. He went on to attend Suffolk University in Boston, MA and Lane Community College in Eugene, OR. He ultimately earned his Associates degree from Lane Community College.
Greg worked as a Sales Associate for Wakefern Food Corp. In Newark, NJ until he retired in 2023.
Greg was always full of life. I was told I had been asking for a baby brother and was truly excited when 3 months before my third birthday he appeared. We moved to Massachusetts when I was 6 and he was 3 and lived on a property with lots of acreage and trees. The house came with a tree fort which was a great source of joy, but even more importantly was the hours we played with our Tonka trucks in “dirt town” building our imaginary communities. Greg became an early and consistent Chicago Bears fan as our uncle played for the team. A highlight for him was when on a trip to visit family in the midwest, we got to visit the Bears training camp where he got an autographed football and autographed pictures of each member of the team. With his Massachusetts roots he was also a diehard Red Sox fan regardless of where he lived.
Greg loved sports and lettered in three sports in high school; Football, Wrestling, and Track (shot put). We both lived in suburban Chicago where his four nephews were born. He was a doting uncle and that love was only matched when one of my sons had a daughter and Greg became a great-uncle. His great niece became the light of his life.
Greg never met a stranger; he was friends to all and never forgot a friend. He found joy and friendship in choral singing (a passion we share). He was a loyal member of the choir of St Thomas Episcopal Church in Eugene, Oregon for the years he lived there and St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Morris Plains. At St Paul’s he was also active in training the acolytes (he was a second Dad to many) and served on the vestry and other committees.
He is gone too soon and will be missed all who have known him.
Greg is survived by his loving siblings, Cheryl (Langford) Ross, of San Diego, CA, and Stephen Langford, of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by his cherished nieces and nephews, Christopher Ross, Geoffrey Ross, Sean Ross, Patrick Ross, Allyson (Langford) Galaif, and Erica Langford.
A Memorial Service for Greg will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11:00am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 29 Hillview Avenue, Morris Plains, NJ. Interment of Ashes will follow in the Church’s Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in memory of Greg may be made to: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (www.stpaulsmp.org).
