I remember Aunt Phyllis telling me of the story of getting the mail at 893 Montgomery and finding a letter from NYU Medical School for my Dad. She nervously presented the thin envelop fearing another rejection. Upon opening it, they found his acceptance dated March 17, the feast of St. Joseph to whom my dad had made a Novena.

Dear Mrs. Cardiello, Very few of my friends moms did I consider my “ second “ mom. I remember you made us this cake for our 18th birthdays. I always loved coming to your house after school.Sitting around the table with Aunt Ana, Uncle Jim and Mr. Cardiello. Loved that you always had cookies and tea out.. remember when you had to babysit Patrick.. You were special to me..may you rest in peace. You were very loved.
