it is my honor and privilege to have been a friend of Jack for many decades. His wit, wisdom and humor will be with me forever, His faith in God and respect for his family were remarkable and are visible in the lives that he has touched. I am happy for all of us who were blessed to have shared some time with him. He was quite a guy.

Deepest sympathy to Anne and all the family. We, your neighbours and friends in Camp have great memories of Jack and Anne, who became a part of every community event and celebration in our village over the years. I first met Captain Downs when I became a new firefighter for the Kearny Fire Department. He was a gentile but strong leader who guided me through the aspects of a tough and dangerous job. It struck me how compassionate he was and was always there for a lesson that turned into a story of how to live life. He was my superior but treated me as we were the same level. I will always be grateful that he was there for me and my admiration for him has never wavered. He was the very best of the best. May St. Patrick meet you at the gates of heaven.

Uncle Jack, You touched us all with your most precious way of being. I love that we call you ‘Jack, I read an article, Downs’. Your stories and your knowledge of so many topics, your love of Ireland and of walking and outdoor life was, and is, an inspiration. And what touched many of us the most was your love of your own family and us in the wider family. Thank you for your beautiful contribution to us all in your lifetime. Our condolences to the entire family! Our best memory is when Jack was our personal tour guide when visiting the Dingle Peninsula in June of 2009. The picture Kathy and I added is when we were visiting the local pub down the road from his house Daly's Pub!
