Obituary of Christopher Edmund Johnson

Christopher E Johnson of Jersey City, NJ, passed away peacefully at the age of 47 on January 8th, surrounded by his family, after a 4-year battle with Colon Cancer.

Chris will forever be remembered for his charisma, wit, and living life on his own terms - whether it’s wearing his beloved Boston Red Sox hat at Yankee Stadium or ordering dessert first at a restaurant.

Chris grew up in Randolph, NJ, the third of Nancy and Charles Johnson’s five children.  During his youth, he developed a life-long love of movies, Legos, Dunkin, joy-rides, and especially making friends. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University, went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering from Stevens Institute, and most recently an MBA from Rutgers University.

Chris loved his work, which took him across the country to Portland, Oregon, and back, where he most recently served as VP of Construction at Brookfield Properties in New York City.

Along the way, Chris met the love of his life, Emily Lloyd, in a Hoboken pub playing darts. The two took on the world together with a shared love of travel, food, wine, and most of all their rescue furbaby, Abigail.

Chris is survived by his wife Emily, parents Nancy and Charlie, his siblings Kathleen, Charlie, Stuart and Erin, his 14 nieces and nephews (who all worshipped their silly “Uncle Rabbit”), as well as the many friends who count Chris as one of their favorite people and the life of every party.

A celebration of Chris’s brilliant life will be held on January 17, 2026, at Dangler Funeral Home (600 Speedwell Ave, Morris Plains, NJ) at 4pm with visitation prior from 2-4 pm.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Chris' Legacy: Supporting Cancer & Animal Charities. (Link to Charity in Text "Chris' Legacy..." or Charity Link on Side of Page.)
