**DUE TO THE IMPENDING SNOW STORM, THE VISITING FOR KARL HAS BEEN RE-SCHEDULED TO TUESDAY, JANUARY 27TH FROM 5:00pm-8:00pm.**

Karl Nils Marx, 101, of Morris Township, NJ, passed away peacefully, at home, on Thursday, January 15, 2026. Born in Schenectady, New York, Karl then moved to West Orange, NewJersey, where he attended West Orange schools graduating in 1942. Karl was a self-taughtmusician, piano being his favorite instrument. As a young man, his jazz trio played many gigs in northern New Jersey.

After enrolling at Drew University, Karl was drafted into the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in the 8th Air Force, 486th Bomb Group as a Technical Sergeant from March 1943 – October 1945. Upon completion of his service, he earned his BA at Drew University, Class of 1949. Karl met his wife of 67 years, Mary, while on leave in England. She joined him in the United States in 1947, and they were married at the Unitarian Church in Orange, NJ.

Karl worked at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital for 36 years. He started in Personnel Department and finished his career as the hospital Business Administrator, retiring in 1988. Karl remained active in his retirement.  He was a member of the Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Summit, NJ. He belonged to the Senior Citizens Club of Morris Township, the MG Car Club, Central Jersey Centre (where he served as Treasurer well into his nineties!) the New Jersey Jazz Society, the Greystone Park Longevity Club and volunteered with the ARC of Morris County. He enjoyed playing the piano, reading, crossword puzzles, bird watching, working in the yard and was always up on current events. He was a well-known figure in the neighborhood, always welcoming conversation when walking down Tracy Court. His restored 1973 MGB and his carefully curated die cast car collection were his pride and joy!

Pre-deceased by his wife, Mary (2014), he is survived by his beloved daughters, Karen Hyman and husband Lloyd, Lisa Falco and husband Alphonse; four grandchildren Elizabeth Walls and husband Robert, Louis Hyman, Anthony Falco and wife Rachel, and Michael Falco and fiancée Stephanie; and great grandchildren Natalie and Joshua Walls and Rocco and Marcus Falco.

The family wishes to thank his full-time aide, Francisca, for all of her loving care and compassion for Karl.

Friends may visit with family on Tuesday, January 27th from 5:00pm-8:00pm at the Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Ave. Morris Plains, NJ. A Memorial Service will be held at the Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Summit NJ at a future date.
