Obituary of Eileen Gertrude McHugh

Eileen Gertrude McHugh (nee Early) died peacefully on January 22, 2026, at the age of 97, surrounded by family.

Eileen was the wife of Thomas A. McHugh, Jr. (deceased) and the mother of eight children: Thomas A. III (deceased); Mary Elizabeth; Dennis (deceased); Christopher; Julianne; Martin; Katherine and Marguerite. Eileen had 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

To condense 97 years into a few paragraphs is impossible.

Eileen’s family and her Catholic faith were the pillars of her extraordinary life. Teaching, ministry and social activism were some of the ways she lived her faith.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 10am at St.Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Rd., Madison, NJ. Inurnment of ashes will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery, Noe Ave and Shunpike Road, Madison, NJ.
