Obituary of William J. Giacomaro
William Joseph "Bill" Giacomaro Sr., 79, of Venice, Florida and formerly of Morris Plains, New Jersey, passed away suddenly on February 12, 2026.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (née Duane); his devoted children, Tracy Giacomaro Rempfer, William Giacomaro, Jr., Joseph Giacomaro and his wife Gretchen, and Robert Giacomaro and his wife Piper; his sister, Betsy and her husband George and his brother James and his wife Sheryl. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Danny, Anthony, Brooke, William, Fallon, Hailey, Zoey, Bella, Eddy, Dakota, Joey Jr, Mackenzie, and Cody, as well as four great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Emma, Ellis, and Zoey. Bill was predeceased by his beloved daughter-in-law, Michelle Giacomaro, on February 2, 2026 and his dear parents, Thelma and Joseph Giacomaro.
A proud member of the Class of 1965 of Morristown High School, Bill went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968, spending a year stationed in Vietnam. He carried that sense of duty and quiet strength with him throughout his life.
Bill was employed by the Carpenter’s Local 254 (formally Local 620) of New Jersey and worked for over 50 years at Morristown Medical Center, retiring in 2017. He took great pride in his work and in the relationships he built over the decades.
A true history buff and avid reader, Bill had a deep appreciation for the past and the stories that shaped it. He found the same reverence and wonder in America’s national parks, where he appreciated both their natural beauty and the history they preserved.
In keeping with his humble nature, Bill was also a quiet charitable donor to many organizations, preferring to give without recognition and simply help where he could.
Bill enjoyed the warm weather of Florida, watching NASCAR racing, cheering on the New York Mets, offering enthusiastic “coaching” commentary from the sidelines, and puttering around in the garage, where he knew precisely where every tool and treasure was kept — and would quickly notice if anything had been relocated by someone else. But above all else, Bill was a devoted family man. His greatest joy was being surrounded by those he loved. His loyalty, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and friends.
Friends and family are welcome to gather on Thursday, February 19, 2026 from 4–7 PM at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A funeral Mass for Bill will be celebrated on Friday, February 20, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Church, 35 Orchard Road, Florham Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in memory of Bill be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/give.html).
