Obituary of Gina Marie Steinhardt
Gina “Aunt G.” Marie Steinhardt, age 69, of Chatham, NJ, passed away unexpectedly on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 2026, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness and love.
Gina was born in Paterson, NJ to Mary L. Steinhardt and Marvin V. Steinhardt on January 25, 1957 and came home during a snowstorm. She grew up in Montclair where she attended high school at Immaculate Conception and Montclair High, graduating in 1975, and later studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She moved south to Brick Township which she enjoyed very much before coming back up north to live with her sister, Amy Steinhardt and brother-in-law Robert Taylor in Chatham Township, NJ. Her careers included working at Victor Vito’s Hair Salon in New York City and Dell Publishing Company. She was also an Animal Rescuer and Caregiver.
Gina was devout in her faith, always leaning on Jesus in both the highs and the lows of life. Her trust in God shaped the way she loved others- with grace, compassion and a servant’s heart. She was a true lover of people as well as an unforgettable Aunt, sister and babysitter, known for offering comfort, a listening ear, encouragement and a helping hand to all who knew her.
She had a deep love for art, music and animals, especially her cherished dogs Gracie, Lucy, Zina, Joey, Asia, her sister’s dog Ace, and her many cats who held a special place in her heart. She also loved cars, particularly Camaros, VW Beetles and Jeeps. You could always find her feeding the birds in the backyard and admiring nature’s beauty, especially the beach and her favorite vacation spot, Hawaii. Gina was also a film aficionado who delighted in great movies and meaningful stories. She found joy sharing funny, heartfelt videos, often sharing her favorites with family and friends. She felt very close to her Facebook community and her dearest friend Bonnie Urbach.
No one could ever get between her and her beloved Dunkin’ ice cup and iced coffee.
Gina is survived by her sister, Amelia Steinhardt, her brother-in-law, Robert Taylor, her niece and nephew, Abigail and David Taylor, her goddaughter, Angela Rystrom, her cousins’ Robert Calcagno, Kim Vawter and many others, along with many friends and loved ones who were blessed by her kindness, warmth and unwavering faith.
She will be deeply missed but joyfully remembered, and we take comfort knowing she rests in the presence of our Savior.
A Mass in her honor will be held this Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Corpus Christi Church in Chatham Township, NJ. Anyone who knew and loved her is welcome to join in celebrating her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations may be made in Gina’s memory to the Animal Rescue of your choice.
