Obituary of Helen M. DeMond
Helen Mae DeMond, 94, of Morristown, New Jersey passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on February 28, 2026. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose strength, humor, and generosity touched all who knew her.
Helen was born in Newark, NJ and grew up in East Orange, where she attended Clifford J. Scott High School. She worked for many years at AT&T, retiring from the Benefits Department in 1987. Although she valued her career, Helen loved being a homemaker. Known for her baking and decorating, she took pleasure in entertaining friends and family. She was happiest when surrounded by loved ones and especially cherished time with her grandchildren. She also found great joy in music and treasured her 44 years singing with the “Florhamaires” choral group, of which she was a founding member.
Helen was a voracious reader, a supporter of many causes, and loved to travel. She was gifted in needlework and a passionate gardener, carefully tending her lilies and tomatoes each year. Until recently, she was never without a cat by her side.
Helen was very active in her church community, and her faith guided her throughout her life, as did her respect for tradition. She loved people and will be remembered for her ready smile, quick wit, and contagious laugh. Strong in spirit and generous in kindness, she will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Johnson (Dave Jenkins) and Robert Johnson (Kim Kiser); stepchildren Jeffrey DeMond (Helene Sullivan) and Jeanne Hirsch (Steve); and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Marvin DeMond; her sister, Frances McLaughlin; and her daughter, Ruth Ondreah Johnson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains, NJ on Thursday March 12, 2026 from 5–8 PM.
