Obituary of Robert J. Ramsthaler
Robert “Bob” Joseph Ramsthaler, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born in Pittston, PA, to John and Margaret Ramsthaler, Bob was known for his humor, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family and friends—a spirit that guided him through a long and fulfilling life of service, hard work, and treasured memories with those he loved.
Bob grew up and resided in Nutley, NJ and raised his family in Clifton before later making his home in Surf City on Long Beach Island. He graduated from Nutley High School and attended Fairleigh Dickinson
University. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army, including a period of duty stationed in Germany.
Bob dedicated nearly 30 years of his career to the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company, working in the communications industry—and later applied his work ethic to starting his own business in the sector. He
was active in giving back to his community, volunteering with the Boy Scouts, coaching Little League, and devoting time at Saint Clare Church in Clifton.
In 1960, Bob married Barbara Amato, with whom he shared more than 65 loving years, building a life together marked by devotion, partnership, and family. Bob found his greatest joy in being with those
he loved most. A devoted father and grandfather—known as Pop to his grandchildren—he rarely missed a game, recital, or school event. He cherished days on LBI, enjoyed playing golf, savored trips to Florida,
delighted in telling a good story, and created countless special moments with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his son, Robert and his wife Ann Marie of Florham Park, NJ; and his daughter Susan Toohers and her husband Lawrence, also of Florham Park. He was the proud and loving
grandfather of Patrick and his wife Carter, Kevin, Michael and his wife Claire, Ryan, and Robert; and great-grandfather of Luke and Parker. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret, and by his brothers,
John and Charles. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, from 5–8PM at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 11AM at
Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 1 Lloyd Avenue, Florham Park, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis
Community Center Food Pantry in Brant Beach, NJ.
