Obituary of Borre A. Thoresen

Borre “Bernie” Andre Thoresen, of Morris Plains, NJ, passed away on May 3, 2026, at CareOne in Parsippany.

Born in Oslo, Norway, Borre spent his early years there before moving to Brooklyn, NY, and eventually settling in Morris Plains, where he lived for the past 30 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class.

Borre earned a degree in Mathematics from a college in Oslo. He went on to build a distinguished career in aviation, serving as Director of Maintenance for Boeing 747 aircraft at Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) for 32 years, until his retirement in 1992. He continued his work in aviation as a director for Tower Air and Page Avjet, where he oversaw the refurbishment of numerous Boeing 747 aircraft, including one for the Sultan of Oman, who subsequently appointed him as director for his aviation fleet.

Borre later shared his expertise internationally as a training consultant in Boeing 747 maintenance and repair, working in Spain, Israel, and China.

Borre is survived by his son, Eric Thoresen; his daughter-in-law, Natalie Thoresen; and his grandsons, Bradley and Alexander. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, as well as four nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Borgny Petra Thoresen; his son, Steve Thoresen; and his brother, Ornulf Thoresen.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains, NJ.

Borre’s ashes will be interred in his hometown of Oslo, Norway.
