Obituary of Lynda Ellis Pope
Lyn Pope lived a life defined by joy, independence, style, and an unmistakable sense of adventure. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and raised in the seaside beauty of Spring Lake, New Jersey, Lyn carried a love of water, nature, and beauty with her throughout her life.
She spent many cherished years in Princeton and Lawrenceville, New Jersey, later enjoying her retirement in Essex, Connecticut, and most recently residing in Florham Park, New Jersey. No matter where she lived, Lyn brought warmth, laughter, and unmistakable flair.
A proud alumna of Trenton High School, Wells College, and Trenton State Teachers’ College, Lyn began her career as a teacher at the Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church Nursery School. She later spent 25 years working at the John Dixon and Bunn Libraries at The Lawrenceville School, where her dedication and presence left a lasting impression.
Lyn was, quite simply, unforgettable.
She had a smile that made everything brighter and a contagious laugh that stayed with you long after she left. She was strong, independent, and always ready for the next adventure – whether that meant scuba diving in the Antilles, traveling throughout Europe, or simply finding the nearest body of water for a swim.
She was an animal lover, a devoted horse show mom, a bird enthusiast with a special fondness for swans and puffins, and a passionate gardener. She was also a true foodie and a lover of good wine.
Lyn had style in every sense of the word. A true clotheshorse, she was rarely seen without fabulous shoes and her signature red lipstick. She moved through life with perseverance, a bit of a “lead foot” behind the wheel, earning her the affectionate nickname “Silver Streak,” and a spirit that refused to be anything less than fully alive.
Above all, Lyn was a remarkable mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She approached life with positivity, humor, and a radiant happiness that lifted those around her.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Kim Jensen (Steven Jensen) and Cindy Pope (Pete Yuhasz); her beloved granddaughters, Kristen Jensen (Andrew McNamara) and Heidi Jensen; her sisters, Betty Leblanc and Carol Cahill; and Petra LeCoa, who was far more than a caregiver – she was a trusted companion and a true member of our family.
Lyn’s life was filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments – and those who knew her will carry her spirit forward with every shared story, every burst of laughter, and every perfectly mixed gin and tonic.
Her family extends heartfelt gratitude for the care and compassion provided by Brighton Gardens Sunrise Senior Living and Serenity Hospice.
A celebration of Lyn’s life will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, she would love a donation to a charity of your choice that benefits animals.
