Obituary of Jennie S. Martin

Jennie “Jean” Martin, cherished Mother, beloved Grandmother and Nana passed away peacefully at Morristown Medical Center on May 17, 2026, a couple of days following her 99^th birthday.

Born in Newark, Jennie resided in Maplewood and New Providence before moving to Chatham six years ago.

Jennie worked as a Secretary for NJ Transit in Maplewood for 25 years, until she retired in 1988.

Jennie was a parishioner of Corpus Christi Church in Chatham in her later years. Jennie was a member of the Rosary Society at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Maplewood.  She was also a member of the Polish Cultural Society.

Jennie is survived by her devoted daughters, Debra Martin, Lisa Kenny, and Patricia Martin, and her husband, Lance Berkheimer. She is also survived by her adored grandchildren: Meghan Hopkins (Adam), Brian Kenny (Christina) and Kate Byren (David), as well as her dearly loved great-grandchildren, Avery, Annie, Garrett, Peter, James, and Elizabeth. Jennie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 71 years, Vincent J. Martin (2020), and her brothers, Al Zduniewicz and Gene Zduniewicz.

Jennie loved her family deeply and was the center of her children’s lives. She was the “cornerstone” that provided warmth and strength. Jennie loved travelling with her husband and friends, cooking Sunday dinners for the family, and crocheting quilts. 

A Mass of Christian Burial to honor Jennie will be on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 11:00 am at Corpus Christi Church, 234 Southern Blvd., Chatham. A private interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Please omit flowers.
