Obituary of George Peter Keogh

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

George Peter Keogh passed away on May 25, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on April 24,1946, in Midleton, Ireland, the oldest of five children, he carried the charm and humor of his Irish upbringing with him everywhere he went.

George graduated from St. James High School in 1963. He worked as a National Sales Manager for Lucent, Parsippany, NJ, for over 25 years until his retirement in 1999.

George never met a stranger. His quick wit, easy laugh, and gift for storytelling were with him from his earliest days in Ireland to the heights of a distinguished professional career. He served as a detective in Newark, where his sharp mind and instinctive read of people made him effective and respected. He later brought those same qualities to Lucent Technologies, where he rose to National Sales Manager — a role that suited him perfectly. George had a natural gift for connection, and he built a career on it.

Family mattered deeply to him. He is survived by his son, Dr. Geroge Keogh, Jr, Tacoma, WA, and his daughter, Kathleen Hickey and her husband, John, Mendham, NJ. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Keogh Schmaling and her husband, William, Florham Park, NJ, his brother, Dr. Michael Keogh, Baton Rouge, LA, and his sister-in-law, Alice Keogh, North Arlington, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Finn Keogh and Alana Hickey, and niece, Jessica Barbosa and her husband, Paul, and his nephews, Sean Keogh and his wife, Lynn, Danny Keogh and his wife, Lauren, and Luke Keogh. He is also survived by many grand nieces and nephews here in the United States as well as Aunt Pauline McCarthy and many cousins in Ireland.

He was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and Patrick Keogh, his brothers, John Keogh, and Patrick Keogh, and his niece, Katie Keogh.

He loved fishing, golf, and the company of people who made him laugh. He was a man of real personality — someone you remembered after meeting him and missed when he was gone.

Family and friends may gather on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 5-8pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main St., Madison, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 10am at the funeral home. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations may be made in George’s memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundation (www.wish.org).

To those who loved him, the charm was real, the humor was real, and so was he. He will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing him.
