You can never replace an old friend who has been dear to you. You can only hold onto sweet memories.
Some of my memories: Kate and I were friends for more than sixty years. We were young together, we were "couples" --- Kate and Jack, Jim and Patty. We shared having babies, raising families, enjoying the Jersey Shore, giving dinner parties for each other and friends. And we shared great sorrows, Jim's death and then Jack's.
Through all the ups and downs, all those who knew her could count on Kate to help pull them through and brighten the day with common sense and a terrific sense of humor. She had the best knack for story telling that sometimes turned hilarious.
Among her many talents were home decorating, flower arranging, picture framing (some that she did for me) and crafting. One holiday season she walked into my kitchen with a straw wreath she made for me, adorned with red and white ribbon. I still have it and hang it every year in my kitchen in her honor.
She was always the perfect hostess. Over the past couple of years I would phone her occasionally and say I'm coming over and bringing lunch which mostly turned out to be a deli wrap and cup of soup. Yet she served this modest lunch on the dining room table replete with place mats, matching napkins, crystal water glasses, china plates and tea cups. Tea was always fresh brewed.
To Tricia, Ann and John I send my deepest sympathy, knowing that you, too, will always have your memories. She was your bright light, she was great fun, she was the best.

As the youngest child of Aunt Kate’s baby sister, I’ve had a front-row seat to her generosity, thoughtfulness, and spunk. I still have so many voicemails from her on my phone, some over two minutes long! In my childhood, she hosted backyard Easter egg hunts, and when I went to Mame and Nonie’s house after school, I always saw her visiting them. She even helped me get a job for three summers during college. Always known for her talent for arranging flowers in her “workshop,” she crafted a beautiful wreath of white roses to hang on my parents’ front door on my wedding day.
When I started my own family, Aunt Kate remained one of the biggest blessings in my life. At my daughter Mary’s baptism, she arrived with printouts of the old-time song “Mary...” and wanted everyone to sing. When I moved into my home, she lined my kitchen cabinets and provided hard-boiled eggs to the movers (aka my husband, Bob, and his friend). We loved searching for treasures together at estate sales, keeping in mind her motto, “it’s not a bargain if you don’t need it.” Once, when the kids and I were cutting through the Red Dog parking lot, we spotted her heading into the restaurant for dinner and stopped to say hello. When she found out we had nothing planned for dinner, she popped open her trunk, handed me a Costco rotisserie chicken, and explained that it had been on an irresistible sale. I’ll always be grateful for Aunt Kate and all of the fun times we shared!

I am heartbroken over the passing of my dear cousin Kate. She made everyone feel like a "million", her enthusiasm for people and life was a tonic for the soul. Always loved the Kerrs so much! Always have such good memories of her! Love, Eileen

It all started on a street named Conforti Avenue in West Orange. My parents bought number 60 and few years later the McAndrew family moved into number 56. Dad and Uncle Jack and mom and Aunt Kate became fast friends. A friendship that has endured for over 65 years. Through those years we became bonded to each other as blood relatives would. I have many loving memories of the days spent with their clan and have adopted it as my own. Aunt Kate was such a treasure to us all. Here are a few pictures that seem to be from a different era. An era where love, loyalty and generosity prevailed. I will miss you, your antics but most of all your love. So with all my heart I bid you farwell until I see you again. Rest in peace our beloved Aunt Kate.
