Obituary of Kathleen Isabel McAndrew

Please share a memory of Kathleen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kathleen I. "Kate" McAndrew, 89, of Chatham, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on June 21. She was the loving wife of the late John J. McAndrew.

Born on October 8, 1936, in Newark, NJ, Kate was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Carlin) Kerr.  During her lifetime, she lived with her family in West Orange, Maplewood, Puerto Rico, Short Hills, and ultimately settled in Chatham.  She cherished time spent with her family and friends, whether it was at home, playing golf, or soaking up the summer at the Jersey shore.  Wherever Kate went, she had a natural ability to spark joy at every event with her wonderful smile, always with a story to tell, whether it was a grand celebration, or just a simple moment.

Kate was known for always being put together wherever she went, with a keen eye for style and attention to detail, especially when it came to decorating her home.  Above all, her greatest joy was her family and friends.

Kate was predeceased by her husband, Jack; her parents; her sister Margaret “Marti” Haggerty, and her brother, Michael Kerr.  She is survived by her sisters Nora “Pat” McCormick, and Eileen Kelly; as well as her children: John (Simone) McAndrew, Anne (William) Kostyak, and Patricia McAndrew. She was the proud grandmother of Colin, John, Katie, Harry, Alyssa, Kevin, and Hannah; and great-grandmother to Austin, Charlotte, Liam and Lily. She will be lovingly remembered as everyone’s Grandma Kate or Aunt Kate by countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  You didn’t have to be related but, no matter the generation, she always made you feel like she knew you forever.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 2 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church, 4 Convent Road, Morristown, NJ. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. Friends and family may visit at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ, on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. (*A steady flow throughout the Funeral Home will ensure all guests time to pay their respects.*)
