Dear John, It is hard to put into words how much you and Christa have meant to me throughout my life. You were my American parents, always there for me through every stage, every challenge, and every joy. I owe so much to both of you. The woman I am today was shaped in many ways by your kindness, your support, your guidance, and your unconditional love. Some of my most treasured memories are the many Thanksgivings we spent together on Pine Street and later on Mayfield Court. Coming back to the United States at least once a year for Thanksgiving always felt like coming home. You and Christa opened not only your house but also your hearts to me, making me feel that I truly belonged. Thank you for every conversation, every word of encouragement, every shared meal, every laugh, and every moment of friendship and family. The memories we created together will stay with me forever. John, my wish for you is that you now have that same feeling of being home again, reunited with Christa. May you rest peacefully together. You will always have a special place in my heart. In the fifties my brother and I decided that we wanted to live in the United States . John arrived in 1957 and I followed him in 1959. He enlisted for 3 years and spent time in Germany where hé became friends with Richard’s Dad. I joined the reserves in 1961 and served 6 months. This made it possible to help John with his studies to become an accountant. Marian and I moved to California in 1966 where our daughter Monique (Nikki) was born in 1967. We love California and asked John and Christa many times to join us. But John preferred life in the eastern part of the United States. Thank goodness for planes so we could visit. However when COVID hit everything came to a halt and we were limited to phone calls. When we talked the woes of the world were discussed and of course we had all the solutions. We are grateful that John had wonderful friends who made him feel less lonely after Christa died. We hope you’ll have a wonderful reunion up there and are dancing the polka. We miss you both!

John (Ome Jo), You emigrated here from Holland in 1957 and met my father in 1958 at Fort Bliss, Texas while serving in the US Army. For 68 years you and your brother have remained part of our American family! You will be greatly missed. Rest in heavenly peace now beside Tante Christa. Love, Richard
