Obituary of Jean Mary Negri

JEAN M. NEGRI, 87, of Bernardsville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her family on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. She is leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.

Born on January 6, 1939, in Morristown, NJ, Jean was the beloved daughter of the late Peter Coccomo and Elizabeth (Betty) Coccomo. She grew up in Morristown, NJ. Jean attended Saint Margaret’s School in Morristown NJ, 1953, and Graduated from Bayley- Ellard High School in Madison, NJ, 1957.

She was a proud mother of three and worked for the Somerset Hills School District for 25 years in Bernardsville, NJ where she became affectionately known as the “Lunch Lady” at the Bedwell School. She greeted generations of students and welcomed staff with a smile, a kind word, and caring spirit that left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

A devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose greatest happiness came from her family, Jean will be remembered for her quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, and the smile that seemed to brighten every room she entered. She genuinely enjoyed the company of others, Jean had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcomed and most importantly, valued. Her laughter, compassion, and generous heart created countless cherished memories that her family and friends will hold close forever.

Jean’s legacy lives on through the love she shared, the lives she’s touched, and many memories that will continue to bring comfort and smiles to those who knew her well. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, dear friends, and all whose lives where enriched by her presence.

Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gerald L. Negri, in 2025, and by her daughter, Carol Ann Grant.

She is survived by her son Gerald P. Negri and his wife Nancy, Her daughter Vicki Negri, son-in law Thomas (predeceased Carol);  loving grandchildren: Jennifer, Maria (Brian), Ashley (Chad), Daniel, Jerry Jr.(Tyler), Joseph (Karen); and cherished great-grandchildren: Kilee, Abby, Jake, Eva, Isabella, Makenna, Drew and Cody Lynn. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and many dear friends who were so blessed to know her and love her.

Final arrangements will be made by Dangler Funeral Home of Morris Plains; Burial at Holy Rood will be a private service. The funeral mass will take place at 10:30 AM on July 24th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Bernardsville, NJ.
