Obituary of Ret. Lt. Michael J. Meade

Retired Police Lt. Michael J. “Mike” Meade, 83, of New Vernon, passed away on August 1, 2026.

Born in Morristown, Mike graduated from Morristown High School in 1960. He resided in New Vernon for 50 years.

Mike proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. 

Mike worked as a Lieutenant for the Harding Township Police Department for 37 years before he retired.

He was a member of the PBA, and a Parishioner of Christ the King Church in New Vernon.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Virginia “Elyse” Meade; and his devoted children, Robert, Patrick and his wife, Sharon, Kerry, and Shannon and her husband, Steve. He is also survived by his dear sister, Marilyn Young, and her husband, George; and his cherished grandchildren, Miranda, Michael and Matthew. Mike was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Scanlon.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 4-7pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. (*A steady flow throughout the Funeral Home will ensure all guests time to pay their respects.*) A Funeral Mass for Mike will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 10:00am at Church of Christ the King, 16 Blue Mill Road, New Vernon. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Morristown.
