Obituary of Lillian J. Davitt

Please share a memory of Lillian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

~~Lillian J. Davitt (nee Currey) was born in Morristown and lived most of her life in Morris Township.  She graduated Morristown High School Class of 1937 and Drake Business School in Newark.  She moved to Heath Village in 2010 where she spent many happy years until her death on November 18, 2017.

She was employed for 25 years by the Morris School District, serving many principals.

As an elder of the Presbyterian Church of Morris Plains, Lillian served on two Pastoral Nominating Committees, taught church school for 28 years, and was a member of the Presbyterian Women’s Association and Miriam Circle.  She was recognized during a special church service as the oldest active member, having served for 84 years.  She was a member of the Retired Educators Association, a donor historian for the American Red Cross, and a volunteer at the Morristown Medical center, hostessing  many Mansion in May fundraisers.

Lillian possessed an adventurous spirit and continually sought new experiences.  She will be remembered for her outgoing, generous nature, her sense of duty to her community, and her amazing green thumb.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith Oakley and husband William of Whippany, her son Richard Davitt of Destin, FL, her grandchildren Kim, Jeff, and Karen and four great grandchildren.  She was pre-deceased by her husband Frank and her brother Ralph Currey.

Arrangements by Dangler Funeral Home in Morris Plains.  A memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Dec 2nd, 10 AM, at the Presbyterian Church, 400 Speedwell Ave.,  Morris Plains.  In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Presbyterian Church of Morris Plains would be appreciated.
