Obituary of Eileen H. Duane

Eileen Healy Duane, 93, of Morris Plains passed away at Merry Heart Nursing Home in Boonton on January 26, 2018.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Eileen resided in Morris Plains for over 50 years and was a parishioner of St. Virgil Church, serving as their Eucharistic Minister.

Eileen is survived by her devoted children, Patricia Giacomaro and her husband, William, Maureen Logie and her husband John, Joseph Duane Jr. and his wife Deborah, and Katherine Galdieri and her husband John.  She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Tracy, William, Joseph, Robert, Christopher, Matthew, Sarah, Megan, Molly, Erin, Joby, Allison, Katie, Patrick and 18 great grandchildren.  Eileen was predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph as well as her 4 siblings.

Eileen was employed by the Morris School District for over 21 years.  She began her career as a substitute in the Payroll Department and retired in 1987 as Payroll Supervisor.

In her spare time, Eileen devoted many volunteer hours to various local organizations including Morris View Nursing Home, St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville and IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA).  She was also an active member of the Red Hat Society, To Begin Again, St Virgil’s Primetime, and most recently, Eileen served as President of the Resident’s Association at Merry Heart Nursing Home.

Eileen was a very active and social person.  She enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, golf, and traveling.  The highlight of her travels was when she met Pope John II on a trip to Italy in 1994.  When asked, Eileen would always say that her favorite memories involved her family.  Eileen’s life motto was, “No Complaints.”

Friends and family are welcome to gather on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 4-8 at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains.  A funeral Mass for Eileen will be celebrated on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:15 at St. Francis Chapel, 9 Pocono Road, Denville.  Entombment will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, Morris Township.
