Obituary of George L. Nelson
George Lee Nelson was born on May 4, 1945 in Morristown, NJ to Margaret Allen and William Rainey.
He was a lifelong Morristown resident who was educated in the Morris School District. He also played football at Morristown High.
George’s sports accomplishments were noted several years ago when he was selected to participate in an Athletic Gallery of Honor induction ceremony at the High School where he and several classmates were recognized and awarded for their sports talents.
George worked at Colgate (formerly Mennen) until he retired in 2007. He received a strong religious foundation at Union Baptist Church where he served as an usher since age 12 until last year. He served in the US Army from June 1966 to May 1968. George was also a longtime member of Bethsaida Chapter No. 7, OES, and Tyrian Lodge No. 34 F.&A.M., P.H.A. Morristown, NJ where he performed many roles.
George was a strong, proud man whose hobbies included cooking, gardening, organizing events, and relaxing. George was a kind man with a tough exterior and a heart of gold. He passed away peacefully on May 2nd.
George was predeceased by his mother, father, and brother Ernest. He is survived by his wife Marcella, his sister Ella Vee, his lodge brothers, nieces, nephews, friends, and cousins including Henry Nelson.
