Obituary of Robert "Bob" W. Taylor

Robert "Bob" W. Taylor was born September 12, 1920 in Morristown, NJ to the late Thomas and Pearl Harris Taylor. After a long illness, Bob passed away on January 10, 2019 at his home.

Bob, a life-long resident of Morristown, was educated in the Morris School District and graduated from Morristown High School (MHS) in 1940. He was an excpetional athlete, who excelled at football and was the first black athlete to have his picture on the Wall of Fame at MHS.

Bob proudly served and fought for his country from 1942-1945 during WWII in the U.S. Army, one of his proudest achievements of which he always spoke.

Taylor's Gulf Station at the corner of East Hanover and Evergreen Avenues was Bob's "baby." For many, many years, Taylor's Gulf Station was well known throughout the community.

Bob loved to entertain his friends - eat, drink, laugh, and have a good time. He lived and acted out his life like the mere image of his favorite song, "I Did It My Way!," which was also one of his favorite sayings.

Bob leaves to cherish his memories, his nephews, Bradford T. Broome (wife Virginia), James G. Broome, and his niece, Brenda Bankhead, all of Morristown; his cousins, Caroline Chavis, Alfreda Chavis, and Alice Caldwell, all of Southern Pines, NC; as well as a host of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Taylor, Jr.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 11:30am-12:30pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A Funeral Service for Bob will be held at 12:30pm at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Heavenly Rest Memorial Park, East Hanover.
