Helen B. Henshaw, age 93, passed away on Wednesday January 11, 2017 at the Memory Care Living home in Chester, NJ. There will be no immediate service, but the family anticipates a recognition gathering may take place at Brant Lake, NY and / or Atlantic Beach, NC this coming summer. Box 88, Brant Lake, NY 12815.Helen was born Helen Brinson in 1923 and grew up in New Bern, NC where she was one of 6 sisters in the happy family of Thaddeus Wallace and Kathryn Brinson. Following an early graduation from High School Helen departed for Duke University where she excelled and graduated with honors. At Duke Helen also met her future husband Doug Henshaw and they enjoyed many great and fun times at Duke together.World War II interrupted their time together as Doug went off to serve in the Army and was deployed to Europe in 1942 where he remained overseas for the next 3 years. During this time Helen returned home to her beloved New Bern and worked in the local Post Office while enjoying the support of her family during those trying years of WW II. Helen and Doug were married in 1945 upon Doug's return from the war when they moved and settled in Morristown NJ.Helen was a great Mom raising her sons Doug and Don, and was very active in her 1st Presbyterian Church of Morristown as well as volunteering her service in support of the Parks Service in Morristown. She worked for over 10 years in the local dental offices of Doctors Weiser and Segal in Morris Plains. Helen and Doug enjoyed many happy years in Morristown and their summers always included extended stays at Brant Lake and annual trips to New Bern for family beach reunions. Helen is survived by her sons Douglas R. Henshaw (and wife Marilyn) of Morristown, NJ and Donald W. Henshaw (and significant other Deb) of Rocky Hill, CT; grandchildren Chris (and wife Kim), Kate (and husband Todd), Abby, Erin, Brady (and wife Stacy), Chad, and Kyla, and great granddaughters Sophia and Emma. She is also survived by her sisters Catherine of New Bern NC and Patsy of Winston Salem, NC.
