Obituary of William R. Liggett

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

William Ronald Liggett, fondly known as "Bill", of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 2, 2023. He was born on August 24, 1962, in Orange, NJ, son of Barbara Ann (Grady) Liggett and the late Ronald Louis Liggett.

Like his siblings, Bill’s resume began in the family flower shop, Smith’s florists of Chatham Township, NJ. His lifelong career began in earnest right out of college as a Quality Assurance Tooling Engineer at A&M Ludwig Corp. Bill then was promoted to Purchasing Manager at Automatic Switch Company. Three years later, he was ASCO’s Director of Operations. His knowledgeable experience then took him to Nielsen Bainbridge, LLC from 2000-2011. For two years, Bill was Corporate Director at Picut Industries, where he rolled out manufacturing software for its Liquiflo Division. He worked at both Andersen Corporation and Ply Gem as Supply Chain and Plant Manager. Bill was in demand and was even recruited to become a recruiter. The pinnacle of his experience came as owner WRLiggett, LLC, whose slogan was “Process = Progress.”

Bill’s times of rest and enjoyment focused on traveling with his bride of nearly 34 years, Janet, and spending time with his two children, Megan and Matthew. An avid golfer, he enjoyed a day on the links. Bill had the pleasure of playing golf in Ireland and at home in the Garden State. He hosted a mixology series called Bill the Bartender on Instagram, where he shared family cocktail recipes, always ending with his tagline: Be a Good Human. Bill had incredible gifts as a woodworker, donating time and talent to Habitat for Humanity and ReBUILD NJ Now. His family home in Chester Township was proof of his dedication to a life filled with quality and enjoyment.

Bill was a Keene State College (NH) alumna, and this is where he met his wife, Janet. He was a member of the Alpha Pi Tau fraternity. As a child, Bill attended St. Vincent Martyr School in Madison, NJ, graduated Madison High School in 1980, and was married at Christ the King in New Vernon. He and his family were parishioners at St. Lawrence Church in Chester. Bill belonged to the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick Morris County, where he enjoyed many years of fellowship and with style, the annual parade. Most days, he enjoyed a morning cup with the usual friends at Maria’s on Main Street in Chester.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Louis Liggett; maternal grandparents: Mary (Gallagher) Grady and Thomas Joseph Grady; Uncle Tom Grady; legendary Granduncle Walter Matusiak; and Aunt Jean (Cosgrove) Matusiak. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Janet (Goudie) Liggett; his daughter, Megan Elizabeth Liggett of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY; his son, Matthew William Liggett (Courtney Coyle) of Parsippany – Troy Hills, NJ; his mother, Barbara Ann (Grady) Liggett of Madison, NJ; his sisters: Anne Elizabeth Weisgerber (Paul) of Warren Township, NJ, and Catherine Mary of Madison, NJ; his godson, 1stLT USMC John P. Weisgerber of Okinawa, Japan; his nephews and nieces: Edward Weisgerber of Jersey City, NJ, and Alexander Weisgerber of Warren Township, NJ; his brother-in-law Ralph Walter and nephew Jason Walter of Nelson, NH; Jenny Main (James) of Marlboro, NH; Jeffrey Walter of Stoddard, NH; and Robert Castles, Katie Castles, and Joey Cabibbo of Florida.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ. A Memorial Service will follow the visitation at 12:00pm at the Funeral Home. Interment of ashes will be private.
